Inflated Case Count Per Examiner and the Bottom Line
Issue: This Customer was concerned that they had an abnormally heavy caseload per case manager.
Solution: Using BEACON they determined that in December 1998, of the open cases, 19% were classified as inactive open cases (cases that were open, but had no financial activity for an extended period of time). Millbrook introduced this measurement into BEACON as a means for the Customer to manage closing claims.
Result: By using BEACON to proactively identify and manage all claims this customer was able to decrease the inactive open claims. Within the first year, the inactive open claims decreased by 62%. From December 1998 through December 2000 the Customer realized a 20% decrease in all open claims and an 82% decrease in inactive open claims. This decrease in open claims resulted in a significant reduction in their loss reserves. The Customer was able to reflect this change on their balance sheet. Case manager caseloads were also brought into a more realistic perspective.
